Presentation of the new passport of the Republic of Lithuania
On 20 May 2019, the first new type updated passports were issued to the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania. For marking this important event, on 21 May 2019, Service of Technological Security of State Documents under the Ministry of Finance (hereinafter – the Service) invited more than 50 guests from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Identity Documents Personalisation Centre and State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior, Forensic Science Centre of Lithuania, Migration Department of the Chief Police Headquarters of Vilnius District Municipality and other institutions, as well as representatives of the producer of the new passport UAB “Garsų pasaulis”.
The guests and specialists of the Service were acquainted with the design of the updated new passport of the Republic of Lithuania, their differences with the previously issued passports were pointed out, and the most advanced implemented technological security features which were never used in Lithuanian identity documents were indicated, such as transparent window or multi-coloured image fluorescing under UV light.
Director of the Service Klemensas Rimšelis appreciated close cooperation with so many institutions which contributed to the creation and issuance of the new document. The new passport was designed by the specialists of the Service, it is personalised by the Identity Documents Personalisation Centre under the Ministry of the Interior, and issued to the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania by the Migration Divisions. Many thanks were given to the representatives of the producer UAB “Garsų pasaulis”, who made great attempts and needed high concentration and updated security printing technologies to successfully fulfil this project.
