Exhibition "Identity and travel documents in Lithuania"

Service of Technological Security of State Documents under the Ministry of Finance together with Identity Documents Personalisation Centre under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, National Museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, as well as collectors Vytautas Šaikus and Rolandas Česiūnas arranged the exhibition “Identity and travel documents in Lithuania” on the premises of the National Museum lasting from 7 November 2018 until 16 February  2019.

The exhibition displays original identity and travel documents issued since the times of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania compiled in different museums, various institutions and private collections. The documents are presented according to the time of their issuance: during the Russian Empire, the First World War – in Vilnija and Klaipėda regions, during the first year after the declaration of independence of the Republic of Lithuania on 16 February 1918 – internal and foreign passports, during war and post-war years, in the Soviet Era, as well as identity and travel documents used after the restoration of independence of Lithuania. The only still extant original document with the visa issued by Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara during the Second World War is also displayed.

The exhibition enables comparing identity and travel documents issued during the interwar period and after the restoration of independence of Lithuania.
